Competition for promotion and gender equality
Project title
Competition for promotion and gender equality
Project summary
The purpose of this project is to, with the help of microeconomic theory and lab experiments, study how firms’ promotion systems affect economic efficiency, the distribution of income, and the gender balance in highly remunerated and competitive occupations. We take into account new research that has highlighted that men and women react differently to promotion systems within firms. We also intend to study how public policy, such as quotas, taxes, and parental leave rules affect firm decisions about promotion and compensation, and explore implications for investments in education and career choices.
